Back from vacation!

Given my worldwide readership and endless sphere of influence :), I'd like to take this time to thank everyone for their gifts this holiday season. I began with an early Christmas when I receives a monstrous rawhide candy cane from Dave. I'll be working on that for a while now (can't wait). I got my first christmas sweater (featured on the infamous Christmas card) from Maris and the Bishes. For those of you who did not receive one of these photo treasures, I'll post a picture here. I also received a nice new jacket from Pat and Sandy (photos coming soon). While I was in Philadelphia visiting Kaye's family I opened some great toys, including three little chipmunks that I can't stop squeaking. They fascinate me, they really do!

There is so much stuff that I have to play with that I wanted to use this forum to thank everyone for helping me fend off another year of boredom with treats, toys, and stylish clothes. Thank you everyone! Bark Bark!

Fun Bumper Sticker

It's not the OBX you see on the back of every land rover from here to Seattle... it's better!

What do I want for Christmas?

Well... here's a hint. I was pretty darn happy in these pictures. Anything that was once attached to a pig or cow in any way will do nicely :)

White House Photo

Here's a pic from my visit to the white house. I was going to say hi to Barney and Ms. Beazley, but they weren't outside. It's ok, though... I left them a little something to let them know I was on their lawn. :)

I hate the rain

There are some things that I will never like. Lettuce. Siberian huskies. Doorknobs. Badgers. Rain.

There you have it, rain is among my mortal enemies. It falls from the sky, makes me wet and stinky, then it stops but still makes my chest wet when i go in the grass. I don't like going outside in the morning and feeling freezing wet grass against my chest. Imagine if you had to be dragged out of bed and put chest-down in icy grass and forced to poop on command.

Yeah, that's what I thought you'd say. Here's a picture of me with a raincoat that Kaye brought home for me. It didn't fit, so it's back to the drawing board.

I'm sleeping

I know it's been a few months now, so I assume that you know me. I only do a few things, and i do them well. I destroy rawhide. I sleep like a professional narcoleptic. I chase my mortal enemy, the squeaker, and remove him from all of my toys. Finally, I sleep.

To the right is a picture that says, "What can you possibly want that is so important that you needed to wake me up?" I was hoping there was some rawhide that needed to be taken care of. Instead, they wanted me to go outside and do my business.

I have never been so disappointed in all of my life. Can you imagine how warm and cozy it is under these sheets? Next time, spare me the trip outside, I'm sleeping!

Things that make you go... yummmm

Now don't ask me if this is one of those cosmic things, like what happens when you feed hamburger to a cow or McNuggets to a chicken? But I was strangely drawn to this one stand near the White House on a recent trip into the city.

We were strolling around, just like any other day, when I suddenly stopped. I put my nose up in the air and was drawn in by the most delicious scent. To my surprise, I was not bought one of these delightful "hot dogs" because of the resemblance to my figure. How dare they deprive me of a delicious treat based on shape alone. After all, there aren't any dogs in hot dogs, are there? :)

The FDR Memorial is Cool

So we all went to the FDR memorial recently, and that's when I discovered that FDR loved dogs! Fala was his scottish terrier and made headlines from time to time. Here is a picture of me touching one of those creepy metal pillars at the memorial. Also, below is a speech FDR gave about his pooch:
"These Republican leaders have not been content with attacks on me, or my wife, or on my sons. No, not content with that, they now include my little dog, Fala. Well, of course, I don't resent attacks, and my family doesn't resent attacks, but Fala does resent them. You know, Fala is Scotch, and being a Scottie, as soon as he learned that the Republican fiction writers in Congress and out had concocted a story that I had left him behind on the Aleutian Islands and had sent a destroyer back to find him--at a cost to the taxpayers of two or three, or eight or twenty million dollars--his Scotch soul was furious. He has not been the same dog since. I am accustomed to hearing malicious falsehoods about myself--such as that old, worm-eaten chestnut that I have represented myself as indispensable. But I think I have a right to resent, to object to libelous statements about my dog."

I got this in the electronic-mail this morning and thought that you guys might be interested in saving some money at The Sharper Image. I hear they might have an automatic dog feeder and stuff like that. I'm just sayin... so you know.

UPDATE: Here's 20% off at Resoration Hardware for December 4-5.

Thanksgiving is my kind of holiday

I've got two words for you folks - FRIED TURKEY. That stuff is amazing. Take it from a fowl expert, it's probably the best way to cook a turkey. That capped off a pretty good Thanksgiving trip that began with a trip to PA with Kaye and Maris. I stayed with the Bishes while Kaye went to a nearby hotel. I always welcome the opportunity to try out a few more couches. One day I'll release a dossier comparing softness, fabric, height, etc. From there, we went to NJ where you can see a picture of me playing outside with Chance, my big yellow lab buddy. Hopefully tonight I'll be dining on juicy fried turkey leftovers with a generous helping of rawhide.

A Blast from the Past

Hi again. Sorry that it's been a few days, but I had to dig up some old photos to post on my blog. These three pics are from 9/30/2004. It's me and Brodie sharing a couple toys. What can I say, I only wanted the toy that he has and vice versa!

Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming up, and you know what that means... LEFTOVERS! I'll be gearing up for the holidays, so check back to see how my preparations are going.

Dude, Budweiser Select Rules

I'm a German dog, so I know my beer. I've been trying this new low-carb option to Bud Light for the last few weeks, and I must say that it's pretty good! I don't have any of my own money, but I hear that it's pretty cheap. I've tried the low-carb Coors, the Rock Green Light, and that new light Becks (awesome, btw). I like the direction that the beer industry is going. My breed is prone to weight gain, andI need to watch my carb intake. So I thank you, Budweiser, for giving us a satisfying choice in low-carb beers.

(I know that it's a funny picture, but don't worry - I'm not actually drinking a beer. It's trick photography, see?)

I got a new toy - play with me!

If this purple squishy ball isn't the best $0.99 investment I've ever picked out of PetSmart, I don't know what is. Sometimes, I'm like the kid who plays with the box more than the toy inside it.

So come over to my place and throw around my new ball!

I get away with murder, so what?

I wasn't always the devilishly handsome pooch you know today. There was a time when I was young... when I did some things that I'm not so proud of. I relied on my cute face to get me out of a lot of trouble. I'm still here, so I guess it worked!

You be the judge! Here are some pictures from when I was a teenie weenie (thanks Khine!).

Wow, I *love* to sleep...

No, seriously, I love to sleep. If I could sleep more, I would. It's been said that dogs only do 3 things: eat, play and sleep; and when we sleep we dream about playing or eating. I love to sleep on the floor, on the couch, under a blanket, on the lounge chair, on the bed, in the bed, under the bed, under the couch, outside in the sun, and inside in the sun. You name a place, I'll sleep there.

Here are a couple pictures of me at work...

Whoooaaa, Nelly!

There's a new doxie in town, and by town I mean Schaumburg, IL. I have confirmed reports that the Valios have boarded the wiener-train with the addition of Nelly the mini-dox. Here is a clip from Ed's announcement:
long story short, my stepsister and her husband found a runaway mini-dachshund and after months of looking for the owner, they finally just kept her. three mini-dachshunds is apparently a lot, so she's now taken up residence with us. Less than six pounds and probably shorter than my forearm, and to top it all off she'll play fetch until you're too tired to throw anymore. now i just have to teach her to sit up like bo.

October Dachshund Meetup

It's that time of the month again! I get to go to the dog park and play with all of my wiener friends. We get together once a month and hang out like only hot dogs can. We run around, bark, play with each other, and chase things. The best part is that someone always brings some kind of treats that we love.

Here are some of the pictures of my friends in their Halloween costumes. For the complete collection of pictures, go to My Sony Imagestation Album

Bark, bark!

Brodie Comes to Visit

This weekend my friend Brodie is staying over. We've been hanging out during the day keeping each other company. On Friday we went outside to lay in the sun and bark at the dogs walking three stories under us. We don't know why we bark, but they had it comin'. We also got some good barking at a truck that thought it would drive by unnoticed. Little did they know that we were on to them. Brodie is fun, and we get along, as long as we don't have to share chewies. :) I love chewies.

Hallo-weenie!

Need I say more? This was my chance to go to the park and really show off my new Darth Vader costume. I think that I pulled it off nicely. I was a hit with all of the parents and kids. I even made a few new doggie friends.

The top picture is me all dressed up and ready to go trick-or-treating. If you look at the bottom picture, there was a boy at the park who was also wearing a Darth Vader costume. He thought I was cool.

Hello!

Welcome to my corner of cyberspace where you will find extraordinarily useful information about dachshunds, bones, treats, food, and the world as I see it (about 8" off the ground). There will be pictures, opinions, and a log of my daily travels. So please come back as often as you like, I am, after all, a pack animal.
